As a PhD student at Cardiff University, Jess is testing devices for measuring physiological response in an attempt to understand subjective emotion in cultural venues. In collaboration with National Museums Wales and funded by the ESRC, the research looks to address whether wearables have value for the cultural sector through a keen engagement with critical debates in technology and a commitment to feminist methods.

Jess is also part-time Programme Manager for Nesta, where I work with organisations to explore and develop potentially disruptive technologies. In 2016, I ran a digital accelerator which enabled five projects with specific public services transformation objectives. These projects focused on (open) data sharing, the Internet of Things, new models for education and local government digital reform.

Jess has collaborated with leading public arts institutions across the UK, including Tate, National Museums Wales and Watershed. As part of the team at the Pervasive Media Studio, she worked closely with the Playable City team to deliver the international Playable City Award - a prize given to promote civic engagement through playful technology interventions.
